Expose NY Spring 2010!

exposes.jpg

Hi fashionistas!  If you are like me, you like to be in “the know” and get the scoop on the latest and greatest forces in the fashion/PR world.  Luckily for me, I was invited by fashion publicity king pin Matt Meyerson, Founder of RPRT, to an amazing event.  It was called Expose NY  and took place during the recent Mercedes Benz Spring 2010 Fashion Week.  Beyond the lights, catwalks, and hustle & bustle, there was something more.  High atop the AKA Hotel in a sleek luxury penthouse, located in NYC’s Times Square area, this cutting-edge event took place.

Expose NY and The Daily Suites were a place to see and be seen. Importantly, one could network, learn and be privy to some of the hottest designers, apparel & industry innovators around.  It was an inspirational day where I certainly learned a lot. I want to personally thank Matt for having me as his guest.  What next from this PR guru?  I don’t know exactly, but it will be something great & innovative because Matt is that kind of happening guy.  I am glad to be able to share the experience with you below!

As I first entered the space, I was greeted by Matt Meyerson, himself!  A mover and shaker, he was handling press inquiries from major publications like Seventeen Magazine.  I was immediately drawn to the super-cool S. Love Collection.  As we all know, purples are really “in” right now.  Well, the designers of this collection- Sally Lapointe and Sarah Adelson took their color concept to another level by taking purple, white and black in a un-replicated handmade process to create some exquisite pieces! My favorite you ask?  This to-die-for party dress from their Sally Collection.

My next stop was over to the most sizzling hot swimwear line around, Kooey Swimwear.  I was wearing one of their swimsuits all summer-long, courtesy of Kooey.  I have to say that the compliments never stopped!  I would like to think it was because of me, but to be honest I think it was because of the gorgeous, sizzling hot red suit made by Kooey that I was wearing!  Each of their swimsuits are inspired by Australia and its sand and surf.  The label draws its design ideas from Australia’s flora, fauna and coastline to create stunning & flattering swimwear for all women.  These stylish suits also will not sink your budget, fashionistas!

Ever wonder what an IMDB of fashion would be like?  Well, the creators of MYFDB(My Fashion Database) did just that.  The collaboration of a few forward-thinking genuises lead to an amazing online site www.myfdb.com geared for publicists, stylists, make-up artists, models….everyone who is anyone in the fashion world!  If you are not on this site, then log-on and get on asap.  I have to say that this is a more than ingenious idea and the thought had crossed my mind — just wish I was the one to do it!  The fashion industry as a whole was in dire need of such a complete resource and this site clearly fits the bill.  By the way, a hello to Jordan Glassberg, the Director of Business Development over at MYFDB.  He was quite informative, friendly and I have to say that this site is amongst the coolest fashion related technology I have seen this year!  Congrats to MYFDB!

Bright neons, sleek zippers and a variety of hip fashion pieces that could be layered to your little heart’s content is what was showcased by the cutting-edge designer Zoe Twitt.  Having met Zoe, with her adorable Melbourne accent, at Expose was quite a memorable experience. I could tell how proud and excited she was about her fabulous collection.  The black skinny pants with the silver zippers were definitely something that I could see many fashionistas lovingly wearing around the hippest streets of NYC, LA, Boston or any other “with-it” city in the U.S.  I particularly adored the relaxed flow of her fashions, yet they reflected a very distinctive high quality & style. Her collection is all handmade in New York City of a unique Italian silk/wool jersey.  The fabric was luxurious, particularly highlighted by the silky-feel found in her chic dresses and tops.

More about Expose NY:

Expose NY is an invite-only fashion showcase that marries the hottest ready-to-wear brands with the world’s most influential fashion editors, writers, stylists and select buyers. Designers get the opportunity to give an intimate face-to-face look at their latest collections to the people deciding what goes in the magazines, on TV and film and on celebrities.

The brainchild of a former fashion product placement and PR specialist, Expose NY was developed out of a need for this type of event. There are so many incredible labels from all over the world that don’t get the face time they deserve with the major decision makers in the fashion business.

Expose will prove to be the one place editors and stylists can come and discover amazing fashion designers in a relaxed, yet classy loft environment. The idea of Expose is to always have something new and fresh to show attendees.

Debuted prior to Fashion Week in September 2008, Expose will return with a Spring and Fall event in NY. Guests of Expose have included editors from such outlets as Italian Vogue, Purple, W, Instyle, Allure, WWD and retailers such as Sak’s, Bloomingdales, Barney’s, Jeffrey and Lord and Taylor.

Expose NY is NOT a gifting suite. There are strict brand screening guidelines and limited space to show the best collections in each category.

Hot brands. Stylists. Fashion Editors. Buyers. Can you afford to not be here?
