Hi, everyone!! As always the under-lying powerful motto of DailyFashionista is the celebration of inner-beauty! Let’s face the fashionable facts — it’s our true beauty that radiates from the inside out that truly makes each one of us beautiful in our own special way.

I was recently asked by Celebrity Make-up Artist, Kim Baker (who began her career as a straight sized model) to be a part of her new beauty book, ‘The Beauty Within.’ After struggling to maintain a size small enough to model the sample sizes; this curvy and statuesque “glamazon”, as she refers to herself, came on the plus size scene to a very successful run as a model but soon realized the “hypocrisy” of the fashion industry did not stop at “plus sizes.” Eventually, she left the modeling industry, but not before networking herself to the top of the list. Today’s she’s an accomplished celebrity makeup artist, and entrepreneur.

So, I made my way to the James Weber Studio in Manhattan for a photo-shoot deluxe for Kim Baker’s brand new, empowering book. My makeup was applied flawlessly by Kim Baker herself (what a treat), my hair was perfected by Juls of Julsstudio, Blaire’ Warren made certain that my Eric Daman for Charlotte Russe dress fit flawlessly!  What a fabulous time! I can’t wait to share all of the photos from the shoot AND Kim Baker’s new book when it launches. True beauty does really come from within!!

I also was really excited to wear my favorite Jewelry by Jane Basch designs necklace for the book photo-shoot!! Ashley Tisdale, Demi Moore and Kendra Wilkinson are just some celebs that wear her gorgeous and affordable initial monogram pieces!!

The stunning Giada De Laurentiis

Hi my flourishing chefs! They say that some like it hot — especially in the kitchen and that the key to any man’s heart is through his stomach. I tend to agree. I decided to cook for a friend this weekend and test out my latest purchase, “Everyday Italian” by Giada De Laurentiis. This book is appropriately named after her hit tv show on the Food Network. Yes, instead of a new pair of sexy shoes I opted for a “cook-book.” Any true fashionista knows that she needs to be multi-talented. *wink* As some of you know, Giadia is the granddaughter of legendary Academy Award winning film producer Dino De Laurentiis.

Giada’s show on the Food Network, “Everyday Italian” is a certified hit. I admire Giada! Not only is she a true beauty, but her cookbook was extremely user-friendly. There have been times in the past where I would look at a cook-book and then put it down only to proceed to “order-in.” Not this time, fashionistas! The mouth-watering pictures were enough to get me to the grocery-store — happily pushing my cart along the isles (I’ll admit I was wearing heels, as usual.) I decided to make Giada’s recipe for homemade marinara sauce and purchased all of the necessary ingredients. I made my dinner menu as follows; fresh baked bread from Balthazar Bakery shipped in from NYC, some delicious Vitamia Ravioli which I cooked al dente, homemade sauce made by your fashionista, zucchini sauteed in garlic and olive oil, and a tasty salad of chopped red onion, vine-ripe tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella and balsamic. Viola!

I truly LOVED the fact that I used healthy vegetables in the recipe for this fantastic sauce. The carrot added a fresh sweetness to the sauce. It really was so light and yummy if I do say so, myself. Here is the video for the actual tomato sauce I made tonite! My grandmother from Northern Italy would certainly be proud… I miss her. Mangia, everyone!

“I have a lot of hang-ups in life with men. I’m not very trusting,” the model and fashion mogul said in an interview in an issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “After my breakup, I thought, I don’t need anything. But now I have someone who has the heart, the soul, and the hotness.” Kimora Lee Simmons is referring to her man — actor Djimon Hounsou.

Adds the “Life in the Fab Lane” star: “When you’re not looking, that’s when it happens.”

Wise words spoken, from a worldly fashionista. Say what you will about Kimora Lee Simmons, but she left the Midwest at 14 and made things happen for herself. You go girl! This media mogul and fashion icon is the mother of three beautiful children — Ming Lee, Aoki Lee and Kenzo Lee

I had the opportunity to meet Kimora at her book signing for “Fabulousity: What It Is and How to Get It.”  She was really cordial to everyone that came out to see her that day! When Kimora speaks — I certainly listen.

Daily Fashionista would like to wish Kimora a HAPPY BIRTHDAY full of positivity, love, laughter and of course, some of her favorite signature – bling!!

To everyone and all the fashionistas out there, I want to bring to your attention this empowering Caroline Myss book. I first want to say that I refer to the women who stop by this website as “fashionistas” in the most caring way — it does not mean that you have to be a slave to fashion or every trend under the city skyline. What it does mean is that you are powerful, intelligent, independent and special. If you’re working on feeling better about anything in your life, I hope that my website helps you in some way — even if it’s just a mere giggle. I began writing this site a few years ago and it has served me quite well. I do receive many emails and have met some amazing people through writing this.

So now, we’ll get to this book. Caroline Myss is one of my all time favorite authors. Her book, entitled “Invisible Acts of Power, Channeling Grace in Your Everyday Life” is a very unique read. The overall premise is that when we act compassionately, without a private agenda or expectation of credit or reward, that we undergo a profound journey of personal empowerment. But, do not let my quick summation lead you to believe that you know everything inside the pages of this book! There are stories…many touching tales of how people helping others have changed their lives in a profound way. I think our society has become so “me” driven, people wrapped up in their own selfish ways, that they sometimes forget about their fellow friends, loved ones or even perhaps a stranger’s needs. The reviews of this book say quite a bit, top stars and has been called “life changing.” I personally loved this book and learned so much from it, that I read it twice this past week!

I’m a firm believer in what you put out there, will eventually become what you get — so, I try whenever I can to open doors for the elderly, help my family and friends, lend a caring ear and try to be there for people. The lesson is that when we do these kind gestures, the reward may not be immediate, but the universe has a way of taking notice and good things will come back to you.

Inspirational author: Lauren Ruotolo

Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting a genuine “mover and shaker” not only in the fashion-world but in the world at large. “Unstoppable in Stilettos: A Girl’s Guide to Living Tall in a Small World” is a new book written by a dynamic lady, Lauren Ruotolo. This inspirational book reflects a person who some consider “physically challenged” – however she turns all minuses into pluses and emerged a true success story!!

Every year, I look for a holiday “must-read” for all of my friends and fashionistas. “Unstoppable in Stilettos” tops my book gift-list for Holiday 2010. Somehow, the world needs more stories by real people like Lauren to make it realize that anything and everything is possible! The legendary William Randolph Hearst would indeed be proud of Lauren Ruotolo, because she emulates what he personified. His genius was doing what other naysayers said couldn’t be done. This attitude translates into the very essence of what Lauren represents. Her position at Hearst Corporation, which is Director for Entertainment Promotions is more than a job. Lauren is the very living embodiment of what a true fashionista is all about. There’s nothing wrong with calling her “unstoppable.” If you want to be inspired/motivated, then the message in Lauren’s book is loud and clear. Some of the topics covered in this book which really resonated with me are: overcoming insecurities, turning rejection and obstacles into triumph & dealing with toxic people. This book is a MUST for everyone — what a uplifting Holiday 2010 gift!!

Frank and Martha Stewart

Hi fashionistas! We just got in from a rather wonderful evening and I wanted to share it with you ladies. Tonite we were invited to the exclusive book signing for author, Frank Sileo, PhD. When Frank isn’t hanging out with stars like Martha Stewart– he’s hanging out with this fashionista! (*wink*) I met Frank last year at a Tori Spelling book event. If you know me personally, you already know that I am quite outgoing and enjoy making new friends. Frank is a very interesting guy and always seems to be writing something special. His new book is no exception!

The book signing for “Bug Bites and Campfires: A Story for Kids About Homesickness” was a packed event. At the beginning of the evening, Frank spoke to his Barnes and Noble audience regarding his aim for the book, which we found quite touching and motivating. This is his third book geared towards children’s health and well-being.

It’s been quite a long time since this fashionista went to camp, but I remember leaving home and how slightly frightened & uneasy I felt. I wish I would have had a book like this at home — that my parents could have shared with me. I read the book this evening before bed and was so impressed. It talks about the emotional struggles a boy has when being away from his family at camp. The camp counselor teaches the lesson that it’s OK to be afraid and that you can overcome these fears. The lessons of strength, camaraderie, love and sadness are all touched on in this book. There are lessons for adults in this book, too! It’s a great tool not just for kids who are going to camp, but for any child who is spending time away from his loved ones. Every camp and school should have this book in their library!

We enjoyed the book and my father adored the colorful illustrations. My dad joined me this evening, which seemed to make the family atmosphere complete, since Frank’s own charming mother and father were there, too. My father and I then had a delicious dinner afterwards at Sanzari’s, owned by Joseph Sanzari who serves on the Board of Directors of the Audrey Hepburn Center at Hackensack Hospital. We later started laughing over cappuccino, because my father quickly reminded me about how I have my childhood doll house and all of my dolls saved for my own child someday in the future. If you know me, you know I am a true kid at heart! I am now adding Frank Sileo’s wonderful book to that collection.

The illustrations in the book were amazing

My dad even got in on the action — He loved the book!

I originally read this book a few years ago and recently the book’s name has been popping up in conversation. This fashionista thinks that this was a hint from the powers that be, to re-read this book. So, we started this evening! If you haven’t read this book, you should — everyone should — guys and fashionistas a-like! This book was a gift originally from a work-out instructor I had, Roosevelt, and then I passed the book ‘s name along to my best friend. This book is very powerful.

I have to say that “Practicing The Power of Now” was one of the most quick and positive books I have ever read! It’s packed with insightful information! The concept is that often in times of stress or even in everyday life our minds can dwell too long in the past or be focusing too much about the future. Your true power is in the present moment and that we should enjoy that present moment as much as possible!

Since true beauty radiates from within fashionistas, I suggest you check this book out at your local bookstore or read the amazing reviews by clicking here.

Hi, everyone. No the above is not a typo, your eyes are not deceiving you. I’m all about adding some humor into my day, aren’t you? It’s that time of the year again — that we’re purchasing a new desk calendar and this one surely takes the cake! Iam so over “cute” calendars with dogs, rainbows and babies with wings.

“Getting in Touch with your Inner Bitch” is a witty, humorous and clever page-a-day calendar. Who exactly is your inner bitch? Well, she is an integral part of us that we need to keep a hold of in a world where more and more demands are being placed upon women. They want us to be smart, sassy, professional, ‘wifey’ material with a sexy twist. Cook, clean, take care of the children, have a career, attend every social function and be there for everyone else– sometimes at the risk of not being there for ourselves. The inner bitch knows when to wisely use the words “I don’t think so” and look out for our own best interests. If focusing on ourselves makes someone a bitch, well then embrace it and so be it!

“Getting in Touch with your Inner Bitch”, by Elizabeth Hilts has inspirational quotes, words of wisdom and humor on every page! Every single day I go to my desk, I laugh and feel strong when I read the message of the day! Click here to learn more fashionistas!
