Hi Fashionistas! I cannot begin to tell you how many inspirational & amazing women I have met through Dailyfashionista.com and the Dailyfashionista Facebook page. One such reader, Sarah, emailed me today about a very kind deed. Please remember those who are less fortunate than yourself, like Sarah and her friends did this past weekend. I don’t know that many 21 yr-olds that are stopping by shelters to drop off things to needy women. Sarah shows more maturity and thoughtfulness than most people that are my age! Please read below. In the spirit of Mother’s Day let’s remember to support our fellow fashionistas with LOVE and compassion which is & ALWAYS will be the underlying message of the Daily Fashionista website!

Today is ‘Earth Day’ – an annual event that is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s ecosystem! Who better than Hello Kitty to help spread the word regarding the preservation of our precious environment and ecosystem. These are really some simple reminders that at the end of the day are basically common sense.  Let’s help keep the world a vibrant place and protect all living things! Recycling is so important and something I’m very mindful of.

Here are some easy things you can do everyday to help make this planet a better place:

*Turn off the lights when you leave the room

*Turn off the TV when you are finished watching it

*Use both sides of your paper at school and home

*Help recycle paper, cans, glass, and plastic

*Don’t leave the water running while brushing your teeth

*If you see litter on the ground, toss it in a trash can

Happy Earth Day!!

A “true” fashionista knows that supporting charities is of the utmost importance. You don’t have to donate to every charity that touches your heart (unless of course you’re Angelina Jolie-Pitt and you can afford to *wink).

What Iam saying, is that I like to pick and chose a few charities that are near and dear to my heart and show my support for them — when I can! Join this fashionista Sunday, March 20th as I’ll be in the company of Martha www.thesassyshopgirl.com, Alina and Kim of www.shopposche.com , and Jovan of www.jovanjane.com as they support “Just Us Kids” a resource for disabled or austistic children. There is nothing more rewarding than giving back to children’s causes, fashionistas.

Hi, everyone! Have you ever felt bullied? I have to honestly say, that even as a child it has happened to me. I think everyone has a story of when they felt alone and hurt at one point or another in their lives. With that being said, I covered a piece regarding Derek “Fabulous” Warburton (who just so happens to write one of my favorite sites – www.dereklovesshopping.com) and his support of the It Gets Better Project.

“It Gets Better” wants to remind teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone —and it WILL get better. The It Gets Better Project has turned into a worldwide movement, inspiring thousands of user-created videos and over 25 million views. To date, the project has received submissions from celebrities, organizations, activists, politicians and media personalities, including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Colin Farrell, Matthew Morrison of “Glee”, Joe Jonas, Joel Madden, Ke$ha, Sarah Silverman, Tim Gunn, Ellen DeGeneres, Michael Kors, Isaac Mizrahi, Kelly Cutrone, Gabrielle Union, Kat DeLuna, Eve, Amanda Hearst, Jay Alexander, Judith Light, and many more.

Watch Derek “Fabulous” Warburton as he openly and honestly speaks out about his own experiences with bullying & how he has overcome the pain with positivity! Also, watch the stunning singer Kat DeLuna as she supports the It Gets Better Project along with Judith Light and so many other famous faces! To watch even more celebrity PSA’s — click here!! I feel so empowered by everyones’ heart felt messages of love and hope!!

These PSA’s actually remind me of one of my favorite quotes by Philo – “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle.” A true fashionista has care and compassion for everyone.

Derek “Fabulous” Warburton and Keri Hilson — all smiles!

This season for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week I was a very blessed fashionista to have the opportunity to sit at some amazing shows and attend some ultra-cool fashion enthused soirees and events! There was one event though that stood above everything else and truly touched so many people, not only in the fashion industry — but everywhere! Derek Fabulous Warburton hosted the It Gets Better Fashion Lounge at the Empire Hotel and I’m honored that I had the chance to take part in this monumental event. Talk about a “wow” factor– I was blown away as celebrity after celebrity strolled into the room!

The fashion elite, celebrities and media were invited to stop by the weeks hotspot for hope and style to celebrate the Project’s mission and help put an end to persistent bullying of LGBTQ youth. The lounge offered guests the opportunity to record their own video messages of hope to youth that it gets better and have portraits taken by celebrity photographer, Mike Ruiz. The fashion lounge and gifting suite’s proceeds will also benefit the It Gets Better Project. There are so many people in the fashion community who resonate with LGBTQ youth and support the It Gets Better Project™s mission, says Derek Warburton.

The “who’s who” of the Fashion Week crowd was certainly in attendance at the Empire Hotel in support of Derek and this special cause. Why? I think it’s because Derek himself is genuine and passionate about the charities he becomes involved with! Media from all of the top entities were there to report as fashion icons and celebrities such as Isaac Mizrahi, Kelly Cutrone, Gabrielle Union, Kat DeLuna, Eve, Amanda Hearst, Jay Alexander, Judith Light, singing sensation Miguel, Joanna Coles Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire, Lauren Ruotolo book author extraordinaire and designer Marisol DeLuna among others took part in this special occasion. In demand photographers such as Andrew Werner and media expert Chance Spiessbach were also in attendance to capture the empowering message of hope and change!

Many young people face daily tormenting and bullying, leading them to feel like they have nowhere to turn. This is especially true for LGBT kids and teens, who often hide their sexuality for fear of bullying. Without other openly gay adults and mentors in their lives, they can’t imagine what their future may hold. It Gets Better Project was created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach if they can just get through their teen years.

It Gets Better Project wants to remind teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone and it WILL get better. Nancy Pelosi, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Colin Farrell, Matthew Morrison , Joe Jonas, Joel Madden, Ke$ha, Sarah Silverman, Tim Gunn, Ellen DeGeneres, Michael Kors, and many more.

About Derek Warburton:

As a fashion correspondent, stylist and motivational speaker, Derek Warburton lives by a philosophy to Help, Teach, Inspire, Love and Have Fun. As such, Derek has built a strong relationship with Housing Works and Bottomless Closet. In the fall of 2009, Derek started the How to be Derek Fabulous program at Bottomless Closet, in which he teaches disadvantaged women how to dress appropriately for work. His involvement with causes was recently profiled by The New York Times and Huffington Post.
