With the pleasant weather finally here everyone is migrating to the beach! No more time to waste debating about your work-out routine. As Style Editor for SwimSpot (leading online swimwear retailer) I decided to stop by True Pilates East in Manhattan and get the inside scoop about Pilates & also check out their gorgeous studio. John Degenshein the head trainer at True Pilates East is really friendly and ultra- informative! It was interesting to learn about the history of Pilates itself and how ‘True Pilates’ is such an important component to the art of Pilates.

I had an energizing day working-out and really saw a difference in my legs.  Although my legs were sore, (a sign of a true work-out) I knew that I definitely achieved something beneficial for my body and my mind. About Pilates

Pilateshas proven itself for more than 80 years as an effective and safe method of exercise, when taught and applied correctly. Who was Joseph Pilates?

Joseph H. Pilates was born in Germany, in 1880. A sickly child who suffered from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever, he dedicated his entire life to becoming physically stronger. Joe studied body building and gymnastics and by the age of 14 was fit enough to pose for anatomical charts. In 1912 he moved to England earning a living as a boxer, circus performer and self-defense trainer. During World War I he was interned with other German citizens in a camp near Lancaster where he trained other inmates in fitness and exercises. It was here that the beginnings of the True Pilates Method began to take shape. After the War, Pilates emigrated to the United States. On the ship to America he met his future wife Clara. The couple founded a studio in New York City and directly taught and supervised their students well into the 1960’s. Pilates and his method, which he and Clara called “Contrology”, soon established a following in the dance and the performing arts community. From their point of view, “Contrology” is the complete coordination of the body, mind and spirit. Well known dancers George Balanchine and Martha Graham became devotees and sent their students to them for training. Pilates practiced what he preached and lived a long healthy life. He died in 1967 at the age of 87. Today, Pilates is practiced around the world by athletes, dancers, fitness professionals, as well as the general public.

What is True Pilates?

I recently sat down with celebrity makeup artist Chris Lanston who has worked his vast expertise on some of your favorite celebrities such as Beyonce, Lance Bass and Kristin Davis just to name a few! His high-end makeup artistry has also appeared on many major television shows and cutting-edge designers such as Nicole Miller and Mandy Esposito of Proper Attire.

I sat down and asked him to divulge his inside ‘Summer Sexy Beauty Tips’ – take notice, because Chris Lanston’s tips about sunscreen are amazing and very informative!! 1. We all want that golden tan but we must remember to take care of the skin. Iwant to say, please use a sunscreen and remember the way to tell the SPF  is by adding a zero to the number — for example if the SPFis 15 it will only stay active on the skin for 150 mins. Each time youapply it cuts it in half so the next application will only be 75 mins — so if you’re out all day go with a higher SPF.

2. Summertime can leave you hot and sweaty at times so if your a gal that needs foundation try a tinted moisturizer , it’s a great way to stay moisturized and evens out your skin tone so you feel confident to catch the boys eyes.

3. Try a golden brownish lipgloss — it gives u a perfect shade when the sun catches the sparkle on the lip.

4. When it comes to face colors for eyes and cheeks think beach colors – golden , bronze , earth tones , rich greens , and then a pop of pink gold for the cheeks to add a goddess look sweep a highlighter along the cheek bones and prepare for the gods to take notice!

5. Body lotion with shimmer and gold – your legs will look airbrushed and you will feel supernatural and irresistible.

The warmer months have finally arrived here on the East Coast with temperatures rising to a lovely 78 degrees in the city (fashionistas and gentlemen hallelujah)!!
