As the year moves into full-swing, I made a promise to enjoy life more. Often, we think that a vacation is necessary to find an escape or relax, but the truth is there are some great NJ/NYC area restaurants and destinations that I want to venture off to and share with the #DF readers. I’m all about value and having a great time!
Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Sofia Englewood a gorgeous restaurant located in Englewood, New Jersey, not far from Manhattan but also easily accessible by my New Jersey based friends. I heard the buzz about their brunch and was curious to see if it was as amazing as I’ve heard.
As I walked into the space, it was really open and airy (which I like) and was greeted by the friendly staff. I made my way to our table which was below a beautiful vaulted glass ceiling. Lots of natural light filled the space and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. The relaxed and chill vibe was something that we appreciated. There is music that plays here but it’s chic and relaxing — not a distraction from conversation and definitely uplifting!
Now let’s get to the food! My waiter who was such a nice man shared the cocktail list (which was impressive) and also a brunch menu to choose from that again aimed to please. I ordered The Seductress cocktail (charbay meyer lemon vodka, peach, lemon juice and lillet blanc shaken with fresh basil, served up) and it was so good! They have an in-house mixologist who really knows what he’s doing. Also brought to the table was an assortment of artisan breads.
I ordered the Polenta with Shrimp appetizer and my date had the Asparagus & Prosciutto. The shrimp was so delicious and the polenta had a lemon taste to it that was refreshing. I had a bite of the asparagus and it too was delicious. Next up was the Tuscan French Toast (Filone bread, cinnamon and fresh berries) and the Prime Steak & Eggs (6 oz. Prime new York strip, eggs your way, arugula salad, smashed potatoes). My french toast was one of the best I’ve ever had! The bread had a slight crisp to it and was so tasty. The steak and eggs was prepared just right with a tender cut of steak.
Finally, it was time for dessert. I was full from the brunch, there really was more than enough, but I heard Sofia Englewood’s cheesecake was life changing! And it was. There were pistachios with this cheesecake that gave it that certain something extra, not to mention how creamy it was! After a cappuccino, and a walk through their downstairs Cigar room, it was time to head out.
Downstairs actually has another bar area and a man-cave spot with an upscale Cigar Lounge. I definitely plan on coming back for dinner and seeing what Sofia Englewood is like at night! I heard the dinner menu is off the chains. There is also an open-air kitchen where you can see their talented Executive Chef creating the delicious dishes.
I highly recommend you visit Sofia Englewood for your next brunch or dinner date spot. It’s definitely suited for everyone as I noticed couples, families and besties enjoying a fun brunch-time! Want to keep the conversation going or have any questions Tweet @DanaPrigge as always I enjoy hearing from you! I also like to stop by the Sofia Englewood Instagram for their latest drool-worthy dishes. I’ll let the rest of the pictures speak:
